Improvisation Is Key

Image
Today marked our first day of filming for our commercial! It was originally scheduled for Tuesday, 9/28/21, but our schedule was pushed backed because our storyboard needed to be revised. With a complete storyboard, a couple of Snickers' bars, and our costumes, me and Sofia set off for our filming location. Though, we overlooked a very important detail: the demon mask. Due to our shared forgetfulness and unforeseen circumstances, we lacked the demon mask we planned to use for Sofia's costume. Good thing we planned a back up solution, which was simply filming without it. After some discussion, me and Sofia decided to rework our vision a bit since we now didn't have a mask. Instead of having Sofia play the demon, she would now play a bully. The only difference between the demon and the bully is the demon mask and the entrance. Originally we planned on the demon jumping out from around a corner, but instead the bully will walk into frame and push the nerd. All other aspects o

First Scene:   This scene is the scene that introduces the main and only two characters of this commercial.  The angry demon  jumps out from  around the corner to meet the nerd. The nerd is walking in the other direction to meet the demon in front of building 9 while  holding a lunch tray .  The camera movement will be a tracking shot following the nerd then  the camera will   pan quickly to  where  the demon springs out to try and scare the  nerd.  The nerd  will be   unaffected  by the demon’s initial scare.   Second Scene :   This next scene shows the  aggression of the demon that  will soon be tempered by the consumption of the Snickers bar  in future scenes. The demon rapidly approaches the nerd and yanks the lunch tray out of their hands. The demon throws the lunch tray like a frisbee  while laughing maniacally . The nerd is not fazed by  this action.   The shot of the demon throwing the tray will be a wide shot.     Third Scene:   This scene is included since it introduces the s

Location : For our set location we have chosen  to film outside of building nine, more specifically outside of the art studio. We chose this location because  there is little foot traffic there during lunch and the lighting would be better than a more enclosed hallway.  We plan to film the entire commercial in this location because our commercial takes place in the same location all throughout. Addi tionally, it is easier to film in one location than in multiple.   Props : For props, we have  a school lunch tray, a fork, napkin, and a Snickers  bar. The school lunch tray, fork, and napkin will be used in the first scene for the school nerd to be holding.  When the monster appears in the following scene, she will grab the tray, with the fork and napkin on top of it, and throw it away. We  neglected to have food on the lunch tray to avoid making a mess and to not needlessly waste food. This is especially true considering we will have to do multiple takes,  and if we had to get more food

Our group is making  a   Snickers  commercial.  These commercials usually entail someone acting drastically different from their normal selves  eating a  S nickers  bar  and turning int o how they normally are. The predominant c atchphrase of these commercials is “ You’re Not You When You’re Hu ng ry”.   - The people in these videos usually act out  hostilely  until they consume a Snickers bar .   -  T he supporting characters are very nonchalant about this person acting out, creating a sense that they know a Snicke rs bar will cure any ill behavior or any   o u t o f syn c   c har acteristics being shown by the person who is not themselves. -  The commercials usually include the focal character aggressively ripping off the top of a  Snickers bar  while also showing the  logo and  taking a huge bite out of it.   -  The camera usually cuts to the person who gave them the candy bar as they ask “better?” Then the camera cuts back to the original  angle to  the person  who ate the bar re

I'm starting this new commercial project with an old friend, Sofia O'Connell-Zamakis. Me and Sofia go all the way back to sixth grade, where we used to be very different people but somehow managed to still be friends. Sofia and I are both in our Junior year of high school now. She is older than me by a little over two weeks but shorter than me by two inches. We are opposites in many ways: she loves listening to music and I barely do, she is an excellent artist where I find myself barely able to draw stick figures, and she struggles in mathematics where I excel. However, we get along extremely well, often finding ourselves talking on the phone for hours at a time. My friend owns three cats now, a true cat lady in the making. We have had many arguments over cats and dogs, which is better and why, but we both hold strong to our views. Sofia is also a fan of horror films, often citing different characters from horror films in our conversations. Her favorite horror movie is Nightma
