Group Blog

For this year's project I'm joined by my friend Ariel P.! When working alone I found not only was there a lot of work to do, but regardless of how much I tried to do myself I still needed help from several others. I still struggle to trust others to do their part in group projects, but this year I believe it will be much less of a problem. If there was one word that describes Ariel, it would be hardworking. Through several conversations I've learned, while busy, Ariel is incredibly passionate and almost unreasonably thorough. With her on my side, I have no doubt she will pull her weight and more. Another struggle I had working with myself was scheduling, in almost every sense. When keeping myself on track I was efficient in the beginning, but began to procrastinate towards the end of the project. I also had trouble scheduling filming times and locations, as I am typically limited to my immediate area around my house. With having a partner, I know I will be more concerned with staying on time so we can work in tandem with much more efficiency. As for scheduling in regards to filming, having a partner allows a wider pool of locations to film in as well as possible transportation that could greatly increase our teamwork and number of possible filming locations. Although what may be the best benefit of having a partner is sharing responsibilities. I considered joining a group of three for more variety and hopefully some reliable actors, but I find relying on too many people comes with its own issues. Plus, a high majority of the students in Media Studies A level are new to me, meaning we will have to make connections and trust throughout the project. With Ariel, as I mentioned before, I know I can trust her from past experience. Limiting the group to two members ensures for less uncontrollable variables and more reliability. The only downside to this arrangement is the busy nature of myself and Ariel. As very dedicated students, we enjoy taking challenging classes that consume most of our free time. While this may be a great trait for typical classes, for a class like Media Studies, it may prove to be more more of a hinderance as filming and editing are long processes. To control this, I hope to work on scheduling with Ariel and keeping a shared calendar we may both add to that will help us plan ahead and make time available for everything we need to do. All together, I believe Ariel will be the ace up my sleeve.
