Intro Blog

 Hey there! My name is Naliah Nettles and I'm a junior at Fort Lauderdale High School. I'm a self proclaimed dragon tamer (as in I have a bearded dragon) and a wolf whisperer (as in I have a chihuahua). My hobbies include reading, writing, and playing long lost video games. I also have the habit of binging TV shows for days whenever I find one I really like. Once I even spent weeks only watching one show because I couldn't wait for the continuation of the story. I have a great admiration of photography and film which I've carried with me since elementary school. I'd like to think I watch more film than the average person, especially since my family has an extensive film collection. My preferred genre is fantasy and sci-fi, though I also enjoy a good comedy or thriller. The only genre I actively avoid is horror because I don't see the fun in being scared, especially when I'm super easy to scare. Plus, blood and guts are pretty gross if you ask me. As for photography, I like to take advantage of the beautiful state I live in by taking pictures at every opportunity I get. I may not be a professional photographer, but I know how to line up a shot. Due to my love of photography, I joined yearbook in eighth and ninth grade. Through those classes I learned I wasn't cut out to be a journalist, but I did still have a chance in film, which led me to Media Studies. I joined Media Studies in the hope of expanding my knowledge on film and photography and making fun memories along the way. I don't plan on becoming a movie director, but I still think I could gain a lot from this class. At the end of the day though, I'm here to have fun. Of course, this doesn't mean I'm going to slack off on the boring parts, just that I'm going to try my best to enjoy all the time I spend learning in Media Studies. Well, that's all I have for now. Genre Decision Blog

 The three genres I chose to research in my previous blogs, horror, thriller, and mystery, were genres I thought were closest to my pitch, or at least where I saw my pitch going. While I'm a big fan of thrillers and mysteries, I'm not too fond of horror movies. The suspense and slight mystery, slight horror aspect of thrillers always has me excited to curl up on the couch with some popcorn for the next 90 minutes. I feel as though I can watch a good thriller with anyone, be it family or friends. Mystery films are very hit or miss for me. I believe a good mystery movie should be believable, intriguing, and have at least one good twist. Whenever one of these criteria are not met, I typically find myself bored with the movie. Lack of believability makes the writers seem sloppy or uncaring. Without the intrigue there's no reason to be invested in the case, it might as well stay a mystery. Simple Swap

 Using the footage filmed so far, Ariel and I have begun to edit, mainly focusing on adding affects. Although Ariel is doing the most editing between us, I still assist in choosing what clips to use, make sure we have a good variety of shots, recommend editing software and tools, and general advice. The decision of which shots to keep was easier than I anticipated. I had assumed it would be difficult to choose between two great takes, but most of them had a clear outlier of the best shot. There were also easy ways to eliminate takes by spotting awkward angles, too much shaking, or actors peeking into the shot before their scene. This process was also helped by the quick thinking of my past self. During the filming sessions I would delete some takes that ended quickly due to early mistakes or shots with noticeable mistakes.  Unlike my previous two projects, this time I'm working alone. For my last two projects I worked with my best friend Sofia who was in my class. We worked well together and always produced something unique that I was proud to be a part of. However, in light of her switching schools, I've elected to go solo. It's true that I could simply team up with another member or group from my class to lighten the load, but I have a few reasons for refraining. The first is familiarity with my class. One of the main reasons I worked well with Sofia was because we were friends for a long time before entering the class. Our high level of familiarity contributed to understanding, comfortability, and easy outsourcing. Grouping with someone I don't know, or know very little about, for such an important project will lack all of these essential aspects.
